Two Days ‘Youth Socialist Convention’ Begins in the Capital on the Occasion of Acharya Narender Dev Jayanti to celebrate the completion of 90 years of Indian Socialist Movement

Rajendra Bhavan, New Delhi, October 31, 2025: It is being organised by ‘Youth Socialist Initiative’, a platform of youths comprising academicians, intellectuals, scholars, students, trade union leaders, farmer leaders, social workers, politicians etc. having belief in the potential of socialist ideology to transform India society. It opposes neo- imperialist capitalism and communal fascism at broader level. It is an initiative to educate the youth of country with socialist ideology and aims to make them aware about corporate – communal political nexus in the present day Indian polity and governance. It works to prepare the future leadership of socialist movement in India for the next 10 years by organising conclaves, conferences, workshops, seminars etc. It aims to commemorate the upcoming centenary celebrations of Indian socialist movement by its different empowering social, political and cultural activities in next 10 years. It has begun its series of activities with the beginning of today’s Two Day (31st October – 1st November) convention at Rajendra Bhavan, New Delhi.

Indian socialist movement formally organised in the year of 1934 when Congress Socialist Party was formed under the leadership of Acharya Narendra Dev, Meenu Masani, Jai Prakash Narayan etc. Apart from these Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Ram Manohar Lohia, Kishan Patnaik, Madhu Limaye, Madhu Dandwate etc. also enriched the legacy of Indian socialist movement in India.

The Convention begins with the recorded inaugural speech of Dr. Abhijit Vaidya, former president of Socialist Yuvjan Sabha as he was unable to attend the convention due some unforeseen circumstances. Prof. G Satyanarayan, Arun Srivastav, Manju Mohan, Appa Saheb, Shahid Saleem, H S Sidhu, Mahendra Sharma, Aditya Kumar, Charan Singh Rajpoot and Devender Awana also enlightened youths with their insightful speeches. The inaugural session was chaired by Prof. Anil Mishra, former DU faculty and renowned political scientist and Mr. Rajesh Kumar, young socialist activist and Journalist at ZEE TV conducted the session.

At the conclusion of inaugural session, Dr. Prem Singh, former DU faculty, multidisciplinary writer and former President of Socialist Party (India) was felicitated by Dr. Sunilam (socialist leader and President of Kisan Sangharsh Samiti) for planning and organising the Two Day convention and for preparing the roadmap for next 10 years under the aegis of ‘Youth Socialist Initiative’ to commemorate the upcoming centenary celebration of Indian socialist movement.

For today’s session three resolutions of socialist perspective on Economic policy, Health Policy and Education Policy was presented and discussed in the conventions. The session on Socialist perspective on Economic Policy was chaired by Prof. Arun Kumar, prominent economists and conducted by Dr. Hiranaya Himkar, DU faculty. The lack of employment opportunities, Poverty, budgetary allocation for welfare policies, GST reforms, rural economy, redistribution of agricultural land, caste sensitive urbanisation, black economy and corruption were some of the key issues raised by the youths in the session. Prof. Arun Kumar highlights the need to regain the eroded sovereignty of Indian state due the intervention of IMF and World Bank to make the economic policy more people friendly. He also cautioned against the growing economic disparity in the country. The session on Socialist Perspective on Health Policy was chaired by Dr. Sunilam, socialist leader and President of Kisan Sangharsh Samiti the session on Socialist Perspective on Health Policy was chaired by Senior socialist and advocate Mr. Rajasekaran Nair. A socialist roadmap for the health and education sector was presented in these sessions.

After these brainstorming session on government policies, a session on poetry was organised by Lohia Vedi and Sahitya Varta in the evening and it was chaired by prominent hindi poet, Shri. Girdhar Rathi. Shri Mithilesh Srivastav, Shri Narender Pundarik, Shri Rakesh Renu and Shri Rajender Rajan also honoured the intellectual gathering by their presence. Various young and emerging poets such as Adnan Kafil Darvesh, Anupam Singh, Saroj Kumari, Mahzabeen, Archana Lark, Javed Alam, Aalok Mishra, Harsh Pandey and Randhir Gautam also presented their poetry.

The Two Day Youth Socialists Conclave has begun on a promising note and attended in huge numbers by youths, politicians, academicians, farmer, workers and common people from all over the country. The Rajendra Bhavan’s huge auditorium was completely filled with enthusiastic and attentive gathering on first day.
